Does this seem like a stupid move to anyone else here, or is it only me?

Sounds like they still plan on having the flights its just operations being based out of the east coast. Am I reading this wrong?

That's how I understood it. But it means they won't try to expand their presence in the NYC area. Which is silly to me considering that they don't have much of a presence here and the purchase of Virgin America would have helped for that.

It all goes back to the main reason why AS bought VS, ehoch was just to keep it out of JetBlue's hands.

I guess I read it wrong before they added the clarification:

Quote
Alaska, along with Virgin America, currently operate fourteen flights a day to JFK and the company says it will add another in July.

Clarification: This story has been updated to reflect that Alaska and Virgin America currently operate fourteen flights a day to JFK.

That being said, while they are adding an additional (seasonal?) flight, it's hard to say any NY based growth while moving aircraft and pilots away from the market.

Thread topic corrected.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Why would they have just opened a JFK lounge if they are planning a leave? Alaska is very conservative with lounges and only has in main hubs.

I'm not sure where this fits in but didn't they recently move out of T8 in JFK to a different terminal?

Yes they moved to T7 and built a lounge there.
