Both have good options, although I enjoyed Venice so much more.

Venice for sure. The whole point of the city is to walk around and enjoy the sights.  All you really need is a Shabbos, Sunday in Venice or to really get everything in a long Friday and then a Shabbos, Sunday.
Also you can either stay by the hotels like the Carnival ( 2 min walk to the Jewish Ghetto) or some other fancier ones which are around a 20- 30 walk or I personally stayed by a good airbnb which was a also a 2 min walk to the Jewish Ghetto.

For meals they have a bunch of options including Chabad.

Does Venice really look like this on summer weekends?
Pictures courtesy of news sites' articles on Venice's new tourist barriers :)

NO!
The last one is a line waiting to get into the Vatican (I think) and the 3rd also looks like a line.  The first 2 do not represent the crowds I saw when I was there last August.

See the Venice Master Thread for tons of talk about this. (Some in the past few days too.)

There's a kosher hotel in the ghetto; there's the Carnival 5-10 min away; there are airbnb's around if you want that; and there are plenty of people who will tell you that the main attraction of Venice is walking around and that therefore it's fine to stay far away :)

Better to stay close by and "take a walk ( on purpose)" then to have to walk a few times a day to the jewish quarter.

I agree. We stayed in the kosher hotel in the ghetto and I'd do it again in a second. We took long walks on Friday night and Shabbos afternoon but davening and our meals were a minute away.
