ip phones
« on: May 30, 2018, 05:43:41 PM »
i would like to use an ip phone in a room that does not have an ethernet jack. Would google wifi mesh networking system be a good good solution? They seem to have an ethernet jack i can plug the phone into. It seems that simply using a wifi ip phone is not a good idea.

IP Phones (or any real-time conversation) over WiFi might not be reliable due to the general unreliability of WiFi (and unlike a webpage, a phone conversation needs every packet of data and quickly!)

But if you are going to use a phone over WiFi I do not see why it'll be better to connect the phone with a wire to a device connecting to WiFi (Google's Mesh in your question) than to simply use an IP phone that can connect to WiFi.
