factory reset on sprint turned off phone

my sprint lg lotus phone is turning off after any button i press
i figured out it can be because of too much messages stored on phone
but i can not get to erase them as it turns off to fast
any way to reset the phone while its turned off?

This is for Android phones, his is a basic phone.

I believe that there is a place to stick in a pin on the Lotus for a reset.
