Funny you mention this. I had two people ring the bell tonight collecting however no one was at home.

I had a thought to put a envelope, with several dollar bills in case someone would come.

But tbh in CH I rarely get knocks on the door by meshulachim.

looking to install a wireless doorbell, main point is to get notification/communication if someone rings while I'm not home. (not particularly concerned with motion detecting/video storage)

trying to compare models: Ring vs. Blink? (blink is cheaper)? are there others that compete? Wyze? Skybell?
seems all can be wired into the existing doorbell system. are any able to run off that? or all need additional battery/power? which ones can be plugged in to normal plug (or other steady power supply)?
Do all need a subscription? or can any run basic notification without additional monthly fees?

on another note, aside from wiring into the existing 'chime', are any able to be wired into the existing 'unlock' wiring of an old-style intercom bell? or is that a whole separate system?
which can be installed easily enough without a professional electrician?

I use a Ring Pro on my house and id like to hardwire it to a (smart) kill switch that I can push (from my phone) before Shabbos to turn it off.

Can anyone direct me to the proper forum, or  share some info on this “Kill Switch” which item did you purchase and where/how did you install it? tia
PS: i tried killing the motion zones, but being that its hardwired infrared lights still go on on shabbos…
Thank you

Does anyone know where the sensor is on the Wyze Doorbell so I can cover it on Shabbos?
Simple Google search came up empty

Actually was fairly simple to make this doorbell Shabbos-friendly using “Rules” in the Wyze app that shuts the motion detection/notification from Friday before the zman till after Shabbos…

I hate Arlo. Like hate hate. Really hate hate.

My Ring Pro that I got for $14 on this crazy deal served me well, but the microphone no longer worked after a neighbor's kid stuck a pin in the hole (hey kid, next time remember that you are on video!), so I was looking for a new one. I love the few-second lead up recording and the fact that I could use my old chime, so I was not interested in buying the cheaper Ring models, but the Pro was expensive so I held off.

Then this Verizon deal happened and I decided to try Arlo. And boy do I hate hate it.

First, it takes a ridiculously long time for the video to come up on a device, making sure that you miss the person at the door most times. To make matters worse, the lag in the video makes that you can see them at your door even when they walked away 15 seconds ago, and results in really delayed conversation. It's also annoying that any doorbell ring automatically comes through as a phone call on the connected phone, and there is no way to turn that off. But the final shoe just dropped for me tonight:

Before I bought the doorbell, I checked the price for the subscription, as I knew that it was where the main cost would really be. The plans sounded on par with others - $3 a month for standard definition and $5 a month for HD recording. (You need the subscription to see the playback on videos taken previously). So I bought the device and started with a 3-month free trial.

Tonight, I went to sign up for a paid subscription, and I see that they jacked up the prices in January. Now, there is no option for a SD plan, and the CHEAPEST plan they offer is $8 a month!! I wanted to call them and vent, but they don't seem to have a phone number where you can get through to someone without an actual Arlo order number.

Did I mention that I hate hate Arlo?

Switch to eufy, free storage with their "homebase".  I have found decent deals on eBay time to time.

Do they allow to use a built-in chime, and do they record BEFORE the button is pushed?

Not sure about the chime, as I have the battery operated one. But I have it set for motion detector so it records whenever someone passes by even if it doesn't ring.

Sounds good. I can probably find info on the Chime online. Thanks!

I would stay away from anything cloud based.

By far the best option beating those triple it's price range is this one

Couldn't find a better thread for this, but please let me know if there is one.

My parents are looking for some simple cameras to keep an eye on my elderly grandmother at home (with her knowledge obviously) and be able to see what's going on if they can't reach her.

Main thing is to have a super-reliable live feed. Recording isn't much of a factor.

The ones that I've seen, which all have similar reviews on Amazon:

Wyza Cam
Blink Mini
Eufy Camera

I've read a bunch of reviews and all seem to have their pros and cons. Any recomendations?

Don't know if any are better. The wyze one you linked is for the first version. Get the latest version if you do get wyze.

Also why not incorporate a video doorbell too, that way she can always one click a button to call?

There's also the Internet that has to be reliable.

Thanks. Good idea with the video doorbell. Will suggest it.
