When stories like this happen over and over I think we have the right to judge
Yup. This isn't the first time this year. This isn't the second time this year...
TAs need to learn from the MH370 story and tell people like it is.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

People that need to be in IL for Shabbos but cant miss a day of work (Thurs). When weather is messed up they cant change to earlier flight since its all full.

This obviously doesnt apply to every passenger, but definitely a scenario that people have and therefore let's not judge.

Not judging, but one needs to be realistic. In the winter, unless you're departing NYC no later than early afternoon, you risk Shabbos.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

What's the MH370 story?

I really don't get how people continue to take these flights. Would I prefer to work a few hours more in yyz on Thursday and take the El Al flight back? Sure (well not really as that would mean flying El Al). But to take a flight landing after noon on a short erev shabbos is crazy
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/el-al-diverts-flight-after-religious-passengers-become-violent-in-shabbat-scare/

#fakenews

"Due to the uproar, one plane landed in Athens, where the ultra-Orthodox passengers disembarked to spend Shabbat before continuing on their way to Israel."

"On the second plane, the El Al flight was going to divert to Rome following protests from ultra-Orthodox passengers who did not want to violate Shabbat...."

Sounds like they think El Al is fine flying on shabbos.

Pretty sure one flight was scheduled to land 11:30ish and the other one scheduled a little after 2. I doubt there are ever frum people on that later flight.

Frum people (Myself included) have an issue with time responsibility. This might be because we are so accustomed to having to be places (like running to Mincha, Chasuna or Bar Mitzvah every other night etc.) on a daily basis that we’ve become indifferent to everything else.

Though I would personally never get on an international flight scheduled to arrive erev Shabbos, I can certainly think of many friends and family that would. This story should serve as a dire warning, but I doubt anyone will care.

To me this story serves as a lesson that one can fly Elal and rely on them to accommodate shabbos needs. Getting to Athens before shabbos is a positive outcome

Wouldn't you rather they cancel the flight (and get a refund or rebooking) like UA? plus, a major part of this story is that the captain lied.
Also, if there happens to be a pax that requires medical attention, your ok with being stranded in TLV for Shabbos?

Classic Plat Guy.

This is exactly what the Barditchever would say as well...
