Verizon Fios mandatory switch
« on: October 25, 2018, 02:24:40 PM »
Verizon is  discontinuing all copper wires in the US and switching to fios.
The problem with that is for me I know some ppl who switched and now have HORRIBLE service!

Also during hurricane sandy when internet was down-we had service thanks to our copper lines :)

I am very upset that they want everyone to switch- is there any way or other service that is keeping copper lines in service that I can switch to?  Anyone have any suggestions?

Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

truthfully I’m trying to convince my mother (it’s for her) that it just might be better and the ones who had it worse is the  exception not the rule but still what about  hurricanes or other outages?

Do you know a  way around it?

I didn't really use my phone much, so I can't speak about power outages (though your best bet for then might be a cheap prepaid cell phone, assuming the cell towers don't go down). But my internet speed went from ~1mbps to ~100! Our copper wires tended to go down also so there was really no downside to switching, plus my bill got cut in half when switching to FIOS.

i hear you but our house is kind of old fashioned; no internet( plug-in yes, WiFi no)(the rep even asked us “whats your cable provider?” And we said “to what? Our non-existent tv?” Hope he didn’t have a heart attack!;))so the only thing for me would be telephone service which isn’t a factor of fast/slow-more of clear-staticy

Same internet coming into the house, just different way of it being utilized.
