I don't think they will have the public support to do that.
This would only be remotely relevant if they basically took the house, senate, and presidency. At which point you'd have to assume that support for this kind of thing would be very strong.

That's because he couldn't drum up enough support in congress, not because it's technically impossible.

FDR had all of those of the same party as him. He couldn't drum up enough support FROM HIS OWN PARTY. The same would be now. Any moderate Dem would not vote for such a thing since they would lose their seat at the next election.  Right now the Rs have all of those. Do you think they would be able to do this?

Totally different scenario, and I'm sure you know that. If they took congress and the white house it would be specifically a backlash to everything that's happening now with Trump, including the SCOTUS.

Naa it would be because Trump is a piece of garbage. There would not be support among anyone more that the radical left to pack the court.

That's just Trump though. Taking the house and senate too? I think that would indicate a major leftward shift in the general public. Mind you, I don't think it's gonna happen - maybe the Trump part, but not that plus the house and the senate.

Not in one fell swoop, but over a few years very possibly. It is not far-fetched for the Dems to take over the house now and then the senate either in 2020 or 2022.

The (republican) governor can immediately appoint another senator.

Not for the confirmation vote though (since he's still be a senator at that point).

You're thinking there may be a rule that you can't vote for yourself.  I have no idea of that's true

He'll step down from the senate before the vote and the governor will appoint someone that will vote for him.
