Exporting Car from Canada to USA

Is anyone familiar with the process? Mr. Google makes it sound very complicated.

Basically, can I get a HST refund from Ontario, and will I need to pay duty in the USA?

I’ve done it.  Not the easiest process but definitely doable.  Duty will depend on the age, make and model of the car.  I imported a car that was ten years old and the customs officer let it slide.  But you need to have all the necessary paperwork.  That’s the biggest headache.

It's a Volvo S80 2008 (so also 10 years now), originally bought in the USA, when it came to Ontario all needed was to pay HST about CAD$5,000.


Any way to get some of the HST back?
