What exactly makes them okay? @aygart's experience? Telephone (lack of) customer service?

IMHO they are definitely the big bank to avoid.
Meaning I personally didn't have any other issues with them.

There's something called corporate culture, or corporate DNA. It seems to be flawed at BofA.

In NY (Brooklyn) I'd say TD Bank has a very decent presence, don't know about the other two states (though I'd assume you're not looking statewide, but rather specific areas).
