Exceeding Hotel Suite/Room Occupancy
« on: July 02, 2018, 03:30:28 PM »
Is there an issue for parents with their children to stay in a hotel suite if it exceeds the room occupancy?

For example, suite occupancy is 6. However, we can easily fit all the kids since many are little and can double up, sleep on sofa, and on floor.
We would rather do this than take two rooms.

Is this against the law? Against hotel policy? No issue at all?

I'm sure we are not the first large family to have this question.

Definitely against hotel policy, possibly against fire code.

If you want to do it, check in while part of your family is elsewhere and try to lay low in the lobby etc when all together, as to not raise suspicion.

What about if we take two rooms and exceed each room's occupancy by 1 or 2, for example having 5-6 people (1 adult, the rest kids) in a 4 occupancy room?
Would the hotel mind that?

It's on you to decide whether or not you care about hotel policy. If you decide to disregard it, just make sure they don't know. In essence, there probably isn't really and physical issue with it, it's just about where you draw your ethical line.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

Thank you for all your advice.

We actually went ahead and called three different hotels and asked them all straight out if we can put our whole family in a suite even though it would exceed the maximum occupancy for the room.
All three told us they don't care how many people we put in the room, as long as we are comfortable!

Is this unusual?

My point was that is doesn't seem like it's against the rules if the hotels themselves are saying it's ok.
Unless the three different hotels we called are the exception & not the rule?

I was saying that they may only make problems if they catch you trying to sneak in.

At least one of these hotels gives breakfast.
We wouldn't take much, if at all, due to Kashrus issues.

Conrad Maldives has a max of 3 ppl for OWV. Do they ask for passports of guests? We want to go with a 4 yo and a just-turned 2 yo. They only count guests from 2 yo I believe.

The hotel could reserve the right to restrict... I wouldn't see the need to sneak in if you did get permission, but I would still keep a low profile if you're significantly above occupancy.

DROPR. Sometimes one rep will tell you its ok but the person checking in wont like it and will either charge you extra or make you get another room. I dont know why you feel the need to announce to the hotel how many people you are stuffing in the room. If you are ok with it, check in by yourself, get the room and then do what you need to do.

Because I want to do it honestly. Therefore, we asked.
