I think you misunderstood.
I didn't watch it now but I vaguely remember it from when it came out.
He wasn't saying the Torah should change/adapt to modern times.
IIRC his point was that the Torah was given based on the situation and the values/morals of the time, so if the Torah was given today, with the values/morals of mankind being what they are, the Torah would be different than what it actually is which based on the morals/values of 2300 years ago.
(One issue I have with that is that modern day values are mostly based on the Torah)
That's why I said
The real question is what G-d did.
because I think the root of the question is really about how you view the Torah as it was given.
