« on: July 12, 2018, 03:55:14 PM »
I'm very conflicted right now. i have the galaxy s7 now, (this is my third galaxy) and thinking of switching to iPhone just for the change. Trying to hear from people that made the switch.

With that emoji?

Definitely.

But seriously, what are you missing that you feel that the iPhone will give you?

I definitely wouldn't do it if you have no interest. From a tech's point of view, a way to describe the difference between Android and iOS is that Apple tries to hide/remove all functionality to keep it "simple", while Google presents you numerous options to configure and tweak as you like. Although in recent years, Google has also moved to hide/remove functionality and I am not happy about that, either.

If you "get" Android, and don't feel confused by the UI, then I don't see why you would switch over to iOS. I would recommend you move away from Samsung's customizations and use a stock ROM, though.  :P

I was an Android user who switched to iPhone and then ended up switching back to Android.

I like that there are more phone options from high-end to low-end.

Overall, I also find Android is easier to use.

I'd call you geeky... ???

While I have not done so and don't plan to do it. I very much understand the thing of switching to iPhone for a year or so just to "get it" and become more cross-platform oriented.

But honestly, as an Android user that has an iPhone in my toolkit for some playing around, it is really a downgrade!
From a tech's point of view, a way to describe the difference between Android and iOS is that Apple tries to hide/remove all functionality to keep it "simple", while Google presents you numerous options to configure and tweak as you like. IMHO that is plain and simple the branding and marketing Apple has done for iOS. The iPhones shortcomings cannot be fitted into the supposed "simple and easy" marketing talk! The fact that until the upcoming iOS 12 iOS notifications just sucks is a fact and does not make anything more simple. And the fact that you cannot save a file normally (up until recently not at all) to the phone itself and see it in a normal File Manager also not, and much more...

I recently carried an iPhone for a couple of days to see if it appealed to me. It did not, for so many reasons

Yes. You can more easily (actually not easier, but more effectively) restrict an iPhone to use specific apps only.

I have both (my personal phone is an android and my work phone is an iPhone). I hate the iPhone. It's not intuitive and has no back button.

My first couple of phones were Android and then I switched to iPhone for a couple of years and hated it. The lack of control I had over phone settings was awful! There's no back button (as others mentioned) and the UI is not intuitive at all. Those that claim iPhone's are easier probably have no android experience.

Aside from that all that, if you get into the world of smart things Androids are much more powerful. Apps like Tasker, Automate and IFTTT (IFTTT has an iPhone app, but its capabilities are seriously limited with Apple devices) are obscenely powerful and really only limited to your imagination (and your wallet).
