theres no BEST baby monitor... some pple like one- other pple tha tone doesnt work for... it all depends on where u live how many floors u have and so on.. that has pretty good ratings all over- but its mid priced... there are chpr ones that prob work just as fine- and obviously some that are more expensive that dont work well... I feel that you should buy from a site you can return and if u dont like it just return it.

we just got this one
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0041Q2V5Q/?tag=cl03f-20
so far i've been happy with it. except that it has sound activated lights (which btw i can't figure out for the life of me what the point is) and can pose a greater halachic problem for shabbos use.

I thought about getting a video monitor but can imagine that any of them would be decent enough to spend the money one.
I mean, would a company actually sell military style technology such as clear night vision video (that will show a clear picture worth paying for) for under $150?

No need for video?
Did you look into the AngelCare movement + sound monitor?

Here's the one we have:
www.amazon.com/dp/B002ZB82CU/?tag=cl03f-20
Though when we bought it it was just $110.

For some reason the price seems to fluctuate a lot on this:
Current    $143.98    Feb 15, 2012
Highest *    $169.99    Jan 23, 2012
Lowest *    $105.19    Jul 29, 2011
Average +    $135.31    -

If your room is within 20 ft of the baby's room, get the Sony BabyCall. Cheap and reliable.
Range is probably longer, just playing safe on the advice.

I see that it detects movement and will sound an alert when there is no movement at all for 20 seconds.
How sensitive are the movement detectors and how frequent are there (if any) false alarms?

Very important feature that is needed (people take it for granted, but I got one without), basically a warning when the part you keep with you, loses connection with the one in the babies room.

VERY, being that it detects breathing.

It seems to have a 820ft range.
