I ended up buying Levana Video Monitor and I am SO unhappy!! It is fuzzy and loud and the video gets all white sometimes you can barely see the kid. Also volume goes crazy staticy when battery running on low. They wont let me return it (3 mths old) Of course I forgot to buy on Amex :(

We have that one too. I was very happy with that as well until the battery in the monitor started dying in 15 min after 5 charge cycles.

So it is a defect it seems like. What did/do you do about it?

Nothing yet. I'll email the company eventually but now I've been using it plugged into the charger.

Dropcam HD. Doesn't come with a monitor but you can view it from multiple devices simultaneously.

Right.  But if I leave the house and I have a baby sitter who doesnt have a smart phone...how would the baby sitter see the baby (without walking in the room)?

Does the program/app need to be open to hear baby?  If the laptop goes to "sleep" the program shuts off?

House computer or iPad? Agreed its not the optimal solutions for your needs. You can set both sound and movement notifications which work very well.

Well it is half the price than what I found already so that is pretty good.

So again, if laptop is sleeping...any notifications? (or is that not even possible?)

I don't think its possible to force the laptop awake with notifications. The apps work well with the notifications.
Go for the other one. See how it works out.
