Many people have also had better luck writing to the office of the President for reconsideration on Citi cards:

Declined for AA Biz Plat. Is my only option to write a letter?

Why were u declined? I was declined and when I called they just needed proof of address (it was my first citi card)  and it got approved

Regular reasons, business too new, too many new cards...

Bump

2 recon calls have been futile. Rep says the same reason the letter in the mail said - too many new accounts on my credit report. Any recent recon success stories?

I had success twice in the last few months with stork!! done together with fax which is waste of time.

sample letter:

6/20/2014
To: Mr. Ken Stork
Application ID:
To Whom it May Concern:
I was surprised to receive the denial letter of my recent Citi AAdvantage World Master Card application.
I am asking you to reconsider your decision based on the following facts:
I am employed full time and have an annual income in excess of $100000. I currently have a few hundred thousand dollars in investment funds. And I own the house I live in with no outstanding mortgages.
Although my past credit is limited, you can see from my credit report, I have never missed a payment or been late. The reason my credit history is limited is because my parents were blessed with wealth and supported me and paid my education costs.
Another reason for applying for this card is I am a frequent flyers visiting family across the United States and Canada and I hope to enjoy the benefits of this card flying with American Airlines.
I know, as I checked my credit score just before applying for your card to insure it’s accuracy. I note the current credit score is over 700 which is better than over 50% of the public and is considered good credit by the credit reporting agency.
I am not a heavy user of credit and never plan to be, I do not need a large credit limit and would be happy with a small credit line at first to prove to you our reliability. And I believe I deserve a chance with your card.
Enclosed is a copy from my Equifax credit report witch I hope it will be helpful for a positive decision.
I look forward to your reconsideration and receipt of my new Citi AAdvatage Credit card.
Respectfully
Thanks, using this template to compose my message. Might as well try.

Got denied for the Business card today even though I've had the AA Platinum for over a year, never missed a payment etc. Called, first rep said my business was too new, and then supervisor said that the first rep was incorrect and that the real reason was that my credit history is too short (apparently 4 years is too short). Supervisor said that he doesn't have the capability to manually override the denial. So as a last resort, I sent a letter to Stork.

For those of you who have sent a letter to Stork, do you always hear back regardless of their decision? What is the usual method of contact? I put my mailing address and email address in the letter, but not anything else. Also, will they be able to pull up my application with only my name, address, and email address (I don't have an application reference number)?

Thank you for applying for the Citi Prestige® Card.

After careful consideration, we are unable to approve your application. You will receive written notification with the reasons for the decision. If you have further questions once you receive the letter, please call us at the number listed.

Thank you for considering Citi.
Called on the phone and approved after 2-3 minute wait time.

Didn't even ask me any questions.

If approved, be sure to visit citicards.com to register and manage your account online. Thank you for requesting a Citi Prestige® Card." Whats the next step on my part? Call recon? Wait it out?

I had the same thing and I sent a letter to Stork and I ended up getting approved. Definitely worth a shot.

Please help for my first credit card.

1) If they said that your application wasn't filed correctly, you may want to inquire further about that. I don't know what that means, but it sounds like you may not be approved regardless of what you say.

2) If this is your first credit card, most of my letter won't be relevant to you. For the most part, I spoke about having a high credit score, being a loyal Citi customer and never missing a payment on my other cards with them, always paying in full etc. The one thing that I wrote about that you can too is why I'm interested in the card– you want to accumulate AA miles, free checked bag, 10% discount when you redeem miles, 2 points per dollar when you purchase an AA flight etc. Just don't mention the sign up bonus in your letter; it's been mentioned upthread that it's not the best thing to do.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck! :)

Does citi merge pulls from CL increase with card applications if done during same day?
