It's expensive, but at the end of the day you'll be happier spending $$$$$ on experiences rather than goods.

"Have a ton of miles to burn? We can also work out a method to pay for the cruise with them!"

How many points?

Lol

On a more serious note:
What happens if they aren’t enough commitments or the cruise cancels? Who covers nonref expenses? Putting down a huge deposit and prepayment, id think people would want  assurances (didn’t fully read site in case this is discussed)

Different strokes for different folks. Some will be happy going to the zoo and see penguins for free.  :)

Would cover everything you need to string together to book this? And even if cancellation is by SF/Dan, for example

(Disclaimer: purely curiousity question as I'm not considering going)

Is there already a minyan committed to going? If a minyan doesn't materialize, would that be a covered reason to cancel for traveler's insurance? Even if I were going, a minyan isn't a deal breaker, but I didn't see that discussed on the FAQ.

Slightly tempted. Was thinking about Antartica this winter but this cruise doesn't hit the Antarctic Circle. Also wife wants to fly over the Drake Passage, though I would rather sail it. Would be fun to do it with DDF members though

You'll be able to walk on the continent, why does the circle matter? Being in the circle also makes Shabbos wayyyyy more complicated.
We looked into flying, but it couldn't work out for a myriad of reasons.

Why, isn't much simpler?

You're right, more about bragging rights I guess. Just seems like if I'm going to spend that kind of money for a once in a lifetime trip, might as well go as south as possible.

Unless you're going to the true south pole, I don't see a difference in bragging rights what you're stepping foot on the continent. You're in rarefied territory. JMHO though.

Crossing the Arctic circle is a whole lot easier...

Why, isn't much simpler?

- Most flights are delayed or moved up due to winds, commonly by 1-2 days. When they say to get on the plane, you have no choice - even if it's Shabbos. And most flights are on weekends, so the chance of you being forced onto a plane off Antarctica on Shabbos is incredibly high.
- Ships that operate fly/cruise cannot accommodate kosher food due to stocking issues and schedules.
- After your tallis/tefillin and a change of underpants, your baggage allowance is too small for a tuna sandwich, let alone a week's worth of food.

Shall I continue ;D?

Much fewer ppl have flown EY/SQ/LH/CX F than have gone to Antarctica, in all likelihood. It’s rarefied territory on ddf, though.

Main issue seems to be your desire to make this about photography as opposed to the experience. You really think it’s impractically difficult with basic food and camera gear? I’d prefer to cruise myself because that’s part of the experience, but the issues and risks you mention don’t seem insurmountable.
