Eh.

It's true that technically you "didn't spend a dime" but I think you need to consider all the tweets and DDMS posts advertising, I wouldn't really say it was "All word of mouth."

Of course it's still pretty amazing that you got so many people without any outside advertising.

Very few people who booked actually saw it on DDMS. It actually is pretty much word of mouth.

I agree there's what to be said for paying for the transportation, but in this case, you're spending so much unneeded time in transit.
Once again, disregard the destination. That's not the main point of cruises usually.

1. Regardless, the DDMS posts and tweets is still considered advertising.
2. How many of those people heard it word-of-mouth from someone who saw it on DDMS? (Or are you arguing that DDMS advertising is ineffective? )

Bottom line, I would imagine the reason everyone knows about it is because Dan posted it and tweeted it to his 90k? followers. It wasn't just from it being discussed on DDF

Of course it's still pretty amazing that you got so many people without any outside advertising.

If that's your logic, everything comes back to DDMS - even all the DDF talk started because of the DDMS post. And the ones who booked after seeing it in the news, only did so because the reporters heard about it somehow, tracing back to DDMS.

So sure, DDMS ads are amazingly effective. But most bookings still came from word of mouth, regardless of the degrees of separation.

What does any of this have to do with not spending a dime advertising?
I didn't say I didn't advertise it, just that it didn't cost anything out of pocket to reach 45 people willing to pay $13K-$24K on a cruise.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

The point is, had it been me running the trip and not you and I had paid to have those DDMS posts about the trip would you say it was all word of mouth or it was the DDMS advertising that did it? I think the fact that you didn't charge yourself for the advertising is kinda irrelevant.

If that's your logic, everything comes back to DDMS
Yeah, that's pretty much my point:
DDMS ads are amazingly effective.

ETA: I guess my big mistake here was not quoting "All word of mouth." in my original post.

Besides the forward and Jewish press. Still impressive though

Just hit 45 kosher passengers!

I am amazed. Simply amazed.

... 45 people willing to pay $13K-$24K on a cruise.

Does that mean you thought it wouldn't get off the ground? I can't imagine the amount of time and effort both of you have put into this so far. Surely you knew it would happen one way or another I guess.
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Our minimum was 10 pax and I thought it would be doable, but a struggle to get that and could potentially require outside advertising.

I had to work quite hard to convince Dan that we'll get way more people.

I've learned a thing or two from my workshops  ;D

Minimum 10 people or 10 men?

People trust you, @Dan, the person, as opposed to an independent company with no accountability. They trust that all issues were properly thought out, they trust that all possible perks were secured, they trust that you will responsibly overcome any obstacles that arise, and they trust that they will have a great time with your group. Had the trip been more local, I have little doubt that you could have secured many more pax.
