I took a coffee today and it tasted off. I sniffed the milk bottle and sure enough the Pride of the Farm milk with a date of July 22nd was spoiled. I had purchased it from a small store with low turnover, and suboptimal refrigeration, and left it out for a couple hours when I brought it home.
Why is this even the remotest bit interesting? Because in the last five years I can’t remember another bottle of POTF milk that spoiled- and I’ve left them sitting on the counter, used them 4 or 5 date after the used by date, taken them on trips in junk coolers so that they were almost room temp by the time we got to the hotel; you name it. That’s not Choliv Yisroel milk. CY Milk is that stuff that constantly spoiled when I was a kid. Learning the hard way taught you to be sure to sniff that milk before coming close to drinking the stuff, even if it was dated two weeks later. I was beginning to think that POTF wasn’t really milk; maybe they managed to substitute some similar liquid with a stable shelf life.
But this bottle had the classic spoiled milk smell and taste so I am convinced that POTF is in fact milk. End of ramble....
