can you even get a tax receipt?

Why not, if there is a charity tied to it it'd be a donation, no?

IMHO The point of giving such a big prize is that people shouldn’t look so much on which organizations they’re giving too And the rather concentrate on the big prize they might get, the fact that there is a charity behind it just takes away the guilt in case you don’t win.
Too me personally what would be a major selling point is that only 200 tickets will be sold, (and mostly to local familiar SCN's) that my odds are way higher then by participating in some larger charity even were the odds of winning are 1 in few thousand.

Why do we have 100+ posts already without an actual raffle running?

I think what makes most sense is
  • $100 per entry
  • money goes to any known org like oorah, hasc, any tomchai shabbos,
  • prize antarctica cruise for 2 or $18000 cash
I'll be the 1st to buy
I'm more than happy to start one up, which is why I'm asking these questions. I'd rather not put in effort, just for it all to flop because people don't like the way its set up.

I think some of the organizations that advertise raffles on DDMS use Raise.it by Duvy's Media. I have no idea how much they charge but it looks like they host the whole thing on their website so no need to set up a new one. Here are a few from recent DDMS ads:

Thanks. I'll look into that as soon as I have a minute

the gamified pay between $1-$360?

I love this option. My shul did it 2 years ago, and it was a great hit. Draws people in like lottery tickets

I don't understand why people go for this. If you do it like this then its a double lottery. You're trying to win raffle one or raffle two?

Trying to win both
If they're trying to win the main raffle you think they would care to pay $1 or $360?

I was thinking of making it that way. You choose a charity from a pre selected list, when you enter. The charity with the most selections gets the cash.

The less complicated it is, the more people you’all have looking at it and buying it.

I agree on that point that we should add a cap on the number of entry’s Which also makes it a big selling point

Depending how much interest there is in tickets for $100/$180, you can always “raffle off” multiple 2 person packages..

I guess again I am the odd ball here. If you want to donate to a charity they go ahead and do it. This raffle IMHO is for those that can't shell out X amount of dollars. Set a price and number of tickets to be sold.

Then you're in effect sponsoring part of someones ticket. Not too terrible, but harder if it's open to the public.

No matter how you do it you are sponsoring someone's ticket as you call it.
