I'm going to be staying 24h at the downtown Philadelphia Marriott. Can anyone comment on what may be kosher restaurants in the area?

1. Su Xing House -- is it currently under hashgascha? (website is giving 404 error when I click on its certificate) Tasty?
2. Burger.org -- Google says it's closed?
3. Hamifgash -- it's not listed in the wiki.
4. Mama's

Anything else walking distance from the Marriott?
Thanks.

The women who owns, runs and operates is it is frum & shomer shabbos. It was under the cherry hill vaad when it was there, and the rabbi now IS orthodox.

You may not hold of the hechsher, that's fine, but DDF is a collection of people of all stripes and sizes. Therefore, why not let each individual person so his own research and draw his own conclusions. Before you take on the responsibility of assering it for everyone and making a fellow Jew lose out on parnasah.

If it is now under the Cherry Hill Vaad and not Novoseller I will stand corrected and delete my post.  If it is still under a reform Hechsher, while I am not saying that every Jew must follow my standards,  when dealing with a halacha question (is it kosher) and the certifier is reform, I'd much rather leave it as non kosher and help prevent the Orthodox from eating there then leave it as kosher (to help their business)  and hope that every single person does sufficient research.

Kashrus in Philly is a bit tricky as there are several Reform hechsherim floating around there.  Their websites have all sorts of hebrew words and look convincing but the Orthodox community in Philly do not rely on them.

Hi, thanks to you, D93, and the other posters.
So, am I correct that Bala Cynwd is the same as "Lower Merion", and that C&R would be the top choice???

I'll post separately on the DO Board about a possible on DO 7/8....hope someone might be interested.

The milchig place across from C&R is also great.  Not sure the name. Was there a couple weeks ago great food but very expensive. Also very nice inside and a deck surrounding it with tables outside on the upper and lower levels

I don't think there is a consensus of where the "orthodox community" in philly will eat. I have seen many eating in hamifgash, and of course there are some that won't. The same goes for Rabbi Hirsh's hechsher in places such as blackbird pizza. Lots of orthodox people will eat there and I'm sure there are those that won't.

Ok, thanks. So either C&R or the milchig is fine with me -- check out the DO Board.  Probably prefer fleishik...trying to get as much as possible before the 9 days.  :P

Not as expensive as NYC prices and you get what you pay for.

I just called. It is still under KO which is Novoseller
They are NOT Orthodox
They are NOT on CRC's list
They are NOT recommended by Star-K
They are NOT on this list http://kosherquest.org/symbols.php
They are NOT on this list http://www.kashrut.com/agencies/#PA

I'm not saying they serve pork - they are probably kosher style. Again - I'm NOT saying that every jew in the world must hold to the same standards as me, but I am saying that when it comes to matters of halacha, and there are factions of judaism who don't follow halacha, it's extremely misleading for you to blankly label it as kosher - when there are many on here that if they knew what I am telling them now  -would not eat there. If your concern is for the store owners parnassah and if she is Orthodox advise her to get an Orthodox hechsher.

Nope not kosher style - rather kosher. Chicken is all empire, meat is from Aaron's and the like. Everything kosher and with a hashtacha. Shes a frum Israeli woman. She's there the whole time and makes the food herself. When she was on cherry hill she had the regular hashagcha. It was too costly in philly I believe. BTW noversrller himself is frum. Plenty of frum people who know her and trust her eat there. Not telling anyone what to do.  Just setting the facts straight.
