Car Rental Question - USA to Canada
« on: July 30, 2018, 10:39:50 AM »
Hi,

Looking to rent a car to take to a wedding in Montreal, do any companies a) not allow this and b) need to know upfront if i plan to do this? Has anyone had issues or advice with regards to this? Was thinking about just doing a silvercar rental for the day or 2 i'd need it.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

They need to know about it at the time of the rental. They will give you a thingy, that you may need to show at the border. ( Usually they don't ask for it..)

When you pick up

Palestinians ≠ Hamas
Satmar ≠ SatmarHQ

I've rented multiple times with Hertz in USA and drove to canada, never told them anything and had no issues with them or at the border.

You are supposed to notify them, and the agents at the border could make you major issues if you can't show them explicit permission. I recall seeing reports here.

Same here, and I have friends who've done this numerous times and no issues at all...

+1

They usually don't ask, but if they do they can bar you from entering Canada with the vehicle.

I always told them after I signed off on the rental ( if you're worried that they will charge you more..)

I've gone through the Canadian border hundreds of times the only thing they ask you is sometimes is the license plate to make sure it's not a stolen car and you know your license plate for your vehicle other than that they never ask you for any information to show that it's your car, you should be good to go.
I have even driven up a brand new lease car from the u.s. to bring to Toronto Canada for someone to have for 2-3 years.

Don't offer any information they don't ask for just play normal and answer the questions they ask don't tell them oh it's a rental car. :)
And of course have a safe trip.
Just remember the passports or enhanced drivers license.
(Not sure if BC still works.)
