As with anything else in life, YMMV. I'd start with chatting/calling amazon - I've had a couple of experiences where the honored the item or fulfilled it with something similar (or gave me credit). I've had others where they've basically said - sorry charlie, we don't have to honor it and we won't.

 For some weird reason some people think that you need to be all sly and say just the right thing to get compensations. They are human just like you and how you act will reflect what they may give you. screaming and yellling wont help in the normal case! showing that your genually annoyed and feel that there should be some compensation on a mistakeon there end has gotten many off the phone with a smile. Although not everytime is a winner. HUCA AWAY!

Every amazon employee I spoke to said that they dont give compensation for price mistakes...

I was told that they can't givee credit but that I can order it at full price and they'll credit the difference with Amazon promotional credit. Went ahead ordered it at full price and had it delivered to an Amazon locker.
I immediately used the promo credit for another order, and then never picked up the full priced order. After a few days it automatically gets returned and I got back the full price paid.
