Wood
Pros: Cheap
Easy to change shape or size as your needs for space change
DIY - most people would be able to build it from scratch or make modifications (e.g. add windows)
Can be converted to chazzon ish (replace metal screws with peg screws)
Can integrate a schlock to the structure
Cons: Heavy, Can warp over time. (note: if you use enough fasteners and are also careful to assemble it balanced this can be minimized)
         Needs lots of storage space

Fiberglass
Pros: Easy Setup (on level ground)
Length/width is reconfigurable (you just need to buy a few 2x4 beams if you change layout)
Cons: Expensive
Greenhouse effect on hot days (need to budget for several open/shut windows)
Connection threads can become bent even with proper storage (need to budget for the odd panel replacement here and there)
         Can Crack or Break

Canvas
Pros: Setup in minutes
Cons: Not accepted by all poskim
         Poor protection from cold Weather
         Wind Can be bothersome.

I hear. Don't have experience with lattice myself, but I would imagine that on a 20' wall, you need more than just 4' on center framing with lattice screwed on.Interesting. Does anyone actually pasken this way l'maaseh (ie to make sure your straps are lavud even acc to R' Chaim Noeh, while your wall is 10 tefachim even acc to Chazon Ish)? I know it wouldn't be a raya, but do the canvas sukkah's come with 3 strips or 4?
You would need more than just the center, but a box around the lattice can be enough. With fabrice you need more crossbeams to keep the stability of the frame.

But is it kosher?

If it is for just one yesr then buy some 1/2s or 2x3s from HD to make a frame including lavud up to 10 tfachim and then get some cheap fabric.

Even if it's for many years. My sukkah walls all seem to be tarp, but none of that is relied upon for the Kashrus of the sukkah, those are there only לצניעותא and for some protection from the elements. It is actually the steel fencing surrounding my deck that makes it Kosher.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Steel fencing sounds like overkill for one year.

I think he means going with cheaper framing and fabric/tarp materials, not the design.

Mine is the same (wood though, not steel). Deck was built by a previous owner with high, tightly packed wood slat walls, and then the frum people we bought it from slapped on a permanent frame for the schach/hanging the tarps.

Definitely.

I was referring to something like this:

Though mine might not be that tightly packed, but definitely qualifies as a kosher wall from a Halachic standpoint.

Yes pre-existing walls can sometimes make things easier.

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread.

Looking to buy or make the cheapest possible 10x20 sukkah.

It's just for 1 year use and then throwing it away basically.

Found this on Amazon for $679 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ILOH9YG/?tag=cl03f-20&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Can I do better?

Also the sukkah is to seat 19 people, does 10x20 sound like the right size?

Cheap diy Sukkah - no mark up!

Thinking of making sliding windows out of plexiglass.

Ideas for tracks?

ETA: Maybe some simple drawer slides?

I don't recall a sukkos like this...ever.

B'h my sukkah is still standing but the scach keeps going all over. I fixed it twice and now again it's almost completely off even after having been tied down.

So many people around me are scrambling to get their sukkah back up today and sadly others have said it is now bent beyond repair.
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Interesting because I remember a whole bunch just over the last 15-20 years (besides when hurricane gloria was a few days before sukkos)

Same here. I remember several windy Sukkos (only the last 3-4 years weren't IINM). Schach mats are a good idea as long as there's no wind. They are a terrible idea when windy conditions exist.

I tied down 2x4’s on top of the mats & it held perfectly, even as my sukkah flew away.

+1. And if you don't want to store extra 2x4's, AYLOR about tying the mats down directly with something that's kosher for schach (leaves from a pasul lulav, jute or hemp string/twine, etc). I had no issues with the sukkah flying away, since it's my deck. But some of the bungee cords I use to hang tarps for privacy were stretched out - gotta replace a bunch of them for next year.

IME tying down mats could result in ripped mats if the winds get strong enough. Mats are a terrible idea in windy conditions, as they act like a sail.

I've never had that, no matter how strong the winds. First of all, the mats should be placed perpendicular to the predominant direction of the wind. And second of all, they should be tied off in a lot of spots - at a minimum, tie off every 18 in at most around the edges of the mats (including on the 'interior' where 2 mats touch).

This is similar to what o tell people about their eruv. Make sure the string is weaker than the pole. You would rather fix a snapped string than a bent pole.

Might help someone else.

Second year using these bamboo mats. I hated the fabric covers that they came in. It's nearly impossible to get it back in without snagging. Was thinking of getting an 8" pvc pipe as a holder but it's way too expensive.

So I used Saran wrap on the end and it slides in perfectly
