Wood
Pros: Cheap
Easy to change shape or size as your needs for space change
DIY - most people would be able to build it from scratch or make modifications (e.g. add windows)
Can be converted to chazzon ish (replace metal screws with peg screws)
Can integrate a schlock to the structure
Cons: Heavy, Can warp over time. (note: if you use enough fasteners and are also careful to assemble it balanced this can be minimized)
         Needs lots of storage space

Fiberglass
Pros: Easy Setup (on level ground)
Length/width is reconfigurable (you just need to buy a few 2x4 beams if you change layout)
Cons: Expensive
Greenhouse effect on hot days (need to budget for several open/shut windows)
Connection threads can become bent even with proper storage (need to budget for the odd panel replacement here and there)
         Can Crack or Break

Canvas
Pros: Setup in minutes
Cons: Not accepted by all poskim
         Poor protection from cold Weather
         Wind Can be bothersome.

thanks.. The eBay one I posted is around/$65 . anything in that range?
For a secondhand piece that you pickup from someone's garage in the UK...good luck.

Hmm... a heater would probably be a good idea, especially this year. But it'll probably make it way too hot during the day. Now if you can find an outdoor heater that you can attach a timer to (ie electric) and/or one with a built in thermostat, then you'd be sitting pretty.

(Well how about Chabad doesent sleep in the Sukkah even though the Torah says Teishvu K'ein Toduru?) Myself and most people in monsey have indoor Sukkos. If you have a outdoor Sukka and its freezing and rainy and uncomfortable, thats not a Simchas Yom Tov!

Dunno, never actually seen an indoor sukkah.

But if we just go by simchas yom tov as what's personally simcha, eating matzah would be off for me.  That stuff rips up my stomach to shreds.

Another chabad hater, yay  ::)
Maybe have a DO with all of the others and laugh at stupid jokes like the closest religion to judaism?

Chabad is vehemently against eating machine matzah at any point during Pesach.
And you can search for the forums for the explanation on sleeping. Not that I know of a single person in CLE that sleeps in their sukkah anyway.

Exactly and i also put curtains (plain white) on all 4 walls from top to bottom so it feels like sukkos. When it will be ready (now we are hanging up all noy sukkah) i might post a pic of it including the 4x4 feet fruit chandelier.

How does it retract anyway?
Never has issues with snow buildup?

OT, but it would be really cool to build a pool with a retractable roof.

Most succas in the UK are indoors with retractable fiberglass.... If you use "wood wool" as sechach you wouldn't even know you are in a succa..

There are plenty of companies that do it, GIYF. I looked into it briefly when 2 of the houses we were looking at came with a pool (why would anyone in YYZ have an outdoor pool?)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.
