Fiberglass

Length/width is reconfigurable (you just need to buy a few 2x4 beams if you change layout)
Cons: Expensive
Greenhouse effect on hot days (need to budget for several open/shut windows)
Connection threads can become bent even with proper storage (need to budget for the odd panel replacement here and there)
         Can Crack or Break

Canvas
Pros: Setup in minutes
Cons: Not accepted by all poskim
         Poor protection from cold Weather
         Wind Can be bothersome.

I hate Chabad? I dont hate any jew! Me neither dont sleep in Sukkah only first night, cuz i want to have a simchas yom yov.
Can i invite you to my indoor sukkah for a chal hamoad day? I have a16x28 indoor sukkah and a 14 feet high roof (schach)
What's the difference halachikally for sleeping in the sukkah the first night vs. the other nights? (CMIIW, but I don't think there is one)

There are plenty of companies that do it, GIYF. I looked into it briefly when 2 of the houses we were looking at came with a pool (why would anyone in YYZ have an outdoor pool?)

Wow. How much does a 16x28 retractable roof cost?
Was included in building the house. I would guess about 15-25k

With wheels on 3 tracks and a chain. Some people even have it with air they just push a button and the roof opens. I never had any problems.
How does it retract anyway?
Never has issues with snow buildup?

OT, but it would be really cool to build a pool with a retractable roof.

Never got that far (my wife thinks it's not safe to have a pool), but it won't be cheap.
They've thought of that. It's like any roof, it's a slanted roof and it is built to hold snow weight.

In Chabad where machine Matzohs and sleeping indoor is not a problem, you cant complain ;)
Funny you mentioned 2 areas where Chabad is more extreme than everyone else.
On Sukkos Chabad are the only ones that sit in the Sukkah when it rains and Pesach Chabad has the biggest Chumros with most Lubavitchers not eating ANYTHIng from outside the house...

They even have some kind of system that you can use on YT with the push of a button. I think it's quite expensive though.

many years ago we had a retractable sheet of fiberglass on wheels and a track. It was on a slant and slid down on to a wooden frame attached to the house..
We had a drop ceiling all year.

I know of one really large regular sukkah (ie not in a house) that has a slanted schach roof - though the degree of incline is probably much less steep than a real roof.
Quick Google search brings up this.
The slant on that is pretty extreme, and probably produces a much smaller footprint within the room that's usable for sukkah than what you see in the opening. Is that how most of them are set up?

As my father is in the construction line in upstate NY ill try summing this up

20 years ago it it was very popular to put in a movable roof there, was a guy by the name Paul from New Sqwer that had a kit with a steel track that would move a big roof,
now days most houses are installing skylight or like skylight domes the organelle manufacture was insula-dome (http://www.insula-dome.com/) that went out of business and now there are 2 frum guys competing for the market

http://www.skyviewskylight.com/
http://www.skylightspecialist.net/

They are not cheep at all

And the air powered opener that can be used on shabbos costs about 6K

It is 6k total (complete for skylight and air powered opened) including installation?  If so, considering the prices of some sukkahs these days, it might just be worth it.

Seems like a really expensive proposition for 1 week out of the year.  Guess that's why I've never seen one.

Neat concept, even though it totally feels like gaming the system.  If Sukkos is in the fall so that the goyim won't say we're doing it for our enjoyment then how does this help?

Not that I'm one to talk about gaming systems.
But the better response would have been not to throw stones in glass houses :)
Which in this case, is not just figurative, but literal ;)
