Is the 764 J seat that bad? Have not flown it.

Yep, so they say. Short, narrow, and cramped.

Option 1 or 3.

It's not that bad, though I'm way shorter than the giant fish. Definitely less spacious than the 772 though.

I see size now, 764 is 6’3” and 772 is 6’6” bed.

IAH not a new airport for you. Though you may have time to check out the Polaris IAH.

Hence option 3 being a no brainer for fishy.

I say option 1 is best given 1) bias in favor of non-stop flight (even without kids), 2) desire to avoid winter Friday afternoon travel, 3) earlier arrival home and 4) to the extent you're troubled about missing out on dinner in EZE, Asian in EZE closed, so you won't be missing out on that restaurant (and don't you have prepacked meals from the cruise?). If you're concerned about not being able to sleep on the flight, the earlier arrival time gives time to take a nap + you're arriving into Shabbos, which hopefully gives you an opportunity to catch up on sleep.

OTOH, if you take 2 or 3, I think my parents will be on the same flight to IAH.

Back to the UA flight.
Better to light with a bracha after plag hamincha with the family at home than at JJs without family.
Why don't you book with SQ for 50k

Option 1:
UA EZE-EWR 9:00p-5:50a B764 J

Option 2:
UA EZE-IAH 10:20p-5:45a B772 J
2:30 connection
UA IAH-LGA 8:15a-12:34p A320 F

Option 3:
UA EZE-IAH 10:20p-5:45a B772 J
1:40 connection
UA IAH-EWR 7:25a-11:44a B772 J ("F")

-------

Option 1 pros: Direct flight. Arrives earliest, by far. Direct aisle access and bulkhead available.
Option 1 cons: B764 seat is quite lousy, especially for someone of my height. Not sure I'll be able to sleep at all.

Option 2 pros: B772 has a way better and roomier seat. Slightly later departure allows me to head to a restaurant for dinner in EZE.
Option 2 cons: Connecting flight - arrival in IAH is the same time as Option 1 arrives in EWR. Will have a seatmate, so with I'll climb or will be climbed over. Need to do the customs and rechecking dance in IAH. 3 hours in an A320 is just not that enticing. Arrives LGA, which is less convenient for me than EWR. I arrive home around 2:30 before Shabbos, which is risky (especially in the winter).

Option 3 pros: Arrive earlier, around 3:30 to Shabbos. B777 > A320.
Option 3 cons: IAH connection is quite tight for customs and rechecking. Still not a ton of time before Shabbos.

-------

I think it boils down to this: is a way better bed worth the hassle and late Friday arrival? I must say I'm leaning towards Option 1.
Option 1 is a no brainer, the other options are narishkeit.

& why take chances with a friday

Only a no-brainer for your average Chaim.
There's no way SF fits into the 764 bed.

Saying that redeeming for a J bed that won't fit him is a no-brainer because it's nonstop is ridiculous.

I've seen him fit into tighter spaces. Actually, not sure fit is the right word...

Either way, I say option 1 as well considering that it's a (i) busy Friday (ii) during the winter (iii) in NYC and if anything goes (stays?) south he'd be away from his family for the 3'rd Shabbos.

What does (i) mean?

FWIW, a flight from EZE-EWR has a much higher probability of cancellation in December than EZE-IAH in case of NYC weather.
From IAH he could fly to alternate airports (PHL, etc) to get home in case of NYC airport issues.

Either way, I'm not saying option 1 isn't arguably better, but it's definitely not a no-brainer for someone that tall.

Or not continue on friday, worst case scenario. But he cant get off mid-flight
ETA:does not make that much sense since EZE-IAH isnt much shorter.

Right before the holidays.

He can always fall back on EZE-IAH/PTY etc.

There's more than enough leeway on option 3 to not have Shabbos issues.
With either option, weather in NYC will disrupt getting home for Shabbos.
