One not-so-good experience doesn't mean all experiences were bad. I've learned how to control the firmness of the seat, and which seats to avoid (easier when flying solo).
Which seats should I avoid in solo? I booked a family member in LX long haul.

Solo is easy. Throne seats are best, but any seat that has a wide separator from the aisle is acceptable.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Problem is the charge for the throne seats, and any window seat that is closer to the window is reserved for Honor and Senator members...

You got lucky. :) I tried twice. First one just repeated whatever said online. The second said it shows as unavailable. If you have any tips on what to say, I would be glad to try again. The main thing the family member is trying to achieve is to sleep, so having a private seat near the window and away from the aisle is a big plus.

ETA: tried again. This rep said she will put in a request and I should check again within 24 hours.

I think it opens up 24 or 48 hours prior to the flight.

Has anyone had success getting LH to open bulkhead before 24 hours out?

Which flight should I take?

OW from TLV to CDG in real J the two options I have is LX in J (first leg only) on a 777 or TK in J (both segments) on a A330

They're both same mileage rate only difference is the YQ is a little cheaper on TK metal. (any reason why one would be better than the other?)

This is my first time flying in J if that makes a difference...

Need to go from TLV-LON.
The ideal flight (BA on an A321) is completely sold out in J, so there is little to no chance of it opening for an award.
Right now I have RJ flight with a 2.45 connection in AMM, 787 for AMM-LHR.
Another option would be to make my entire itinerary F award (AA) and book a not so ideal timed F flight direct which would cost another 45k AA, which doesn't sound right to me.
The real question is if I should hope for that flight to open in J and switch to the that on a 777 with BA direct, as apposed to a RJ with a layover.

BA Pros:
Direct flight.
Get to try a new (horrible) product.
More ideal departure time.
(Use the BA arrival lounge in LHR)

RJ Pros:
4 more hours in London, 4PM-9AM.
Better product for most the trip.

How bad is J on the BA 777, is it worth considering it? Or be happy with RJ?

BA will not open, forget about it.

Granted one flight looks like this: F3 A2 J9 C6 D4 R3 I2

But the next one, which F is available on looks like this:
F6 A5 J9 C9 D9 R9 I9

Flight is 5 weeks out.

Flying economy, direct from AMS to NYC I have two options

KLM - Boeing 787-900, 48,500 miles + $120
United - Boeing 767-400ER, 55k miles + $45 (+ free bag due to United Chase CC).

Thoughts?

Option 1:
Pro: Nonstop
Con: AA RJ-145, no wifi, all coach, no exit row open, MIA RJ gate

Option 2:
Pro: Probably get upgraded on both segments, exit row confirmable, WiFi, FLL, mainline flight
Con: Connecting flight

How much more convenient is FLL going to be for you over MIA? If they're equal in distance, etc. and it's just easier to fly out of FLL, then I would take the inconvenience of flying out of MIA over having to connect but if FLL is going to be much more convenient to get to from where you are then I would do that even with the connection. Chances are you'll get in at the same time since AA will probably get delayed anyway...

FLL-20 mins
MIA-30 mins

My AA track record certainly has me worried.
