UA flies nonstop CLE-FLL in the winter. Who goes to SoFlo in the summer unless it's for a simcha?
I'd take B6, but they only have an evening flight.

Flying into NYC there are so many options. B6 and DL and even Spirit which can work out decently on the spot, have plenty of nonstops between FLL and JFK, LGA and EWR.

Taking off now, all's well that ends well!

Would have been interesting to see what UA GS with an event to catch+UA connection saver would have done in IAD. But the world will never know.

I would guess that if you already boarded the flight to IAD they might have routed you via CVG, otherwise they (or you) might have found an alternate route out of FLL.
