after all that, VS protected me onto LY7 tlv-jfk direct.
so for 45,300 VS points and a couple hundred shekles in taxes, flying J direct
i guess i'll try the EK/EY options another time

LY J is for 45K is a much better value, than 4x the miles and 4x the money on EK/EY IMO.

current res for mid Sept
VS 454 TLV-LHR a330-300 Upper class
7:35-11:10
VS 45 LHR-JFK a330-900neo upper class
12:55-16:00
Virgin Points: 45300 points
taxes: $289.15

have a feeling this is getting cancelled so need some backup if VS doesnt put me on LY

tlv-dxb LY 971 coach
6:05a - 11:00a
$218 or
20k QF (<17000 with Cap1 transfer) + £26 ($33+/-)

long layover

DXB-IAH EK 231 F a380
2:20am-8:40am
163,500 + $682 +/-

self connect to any flight IAD/DCA on AA/UA lots of availability in all cabins money/miles

or

same flight to dxb, self connect to AUH
AUH-JFK EY1 F a380
2:40-9:05
200,000 etihad +$680 +/-

there is EY tlv-auh direct for $1074 in coach. unless i can figure out a different way to book that
didnt get around to updating but basically, in short, i had some extensive back and forth wit VS and VS executive because i was getting the run around as to what re-protected flight i was eligible for
so i initially got 10,000 good will points posted to my account followed by another 10,000 which seemed like a good deal to only have to pay 25,300 for this flight after getting bounced around and cancelled on LY direct etc
i eventually reconnected with the executive liaison assigned to my matter as my travel date approached and squeezed another 12,000 points with a stern warning that it was the last good will adjustment. so an LY business and VS upper class was very much worthwhile for 13,300
but wait, i just logged in to my account to book tlv-jfk on LY in coach using VS for a friend and lo and behold, i actually earned 13,828 additional    points for the actual flight, so not only was my J flight free, i also got 500+ miles out of it.

Wait! They gave goodwill points for canceling the TLV-LHR flight? Is there any contact info for the Virgin executive?

Which of these is a better product? (would be my first time flying business)
AA is Boeing 777-200/200ER
LA is Boeing 787-8

ETA: I feel like there's a thread specifically for this. If there is please point me there

I’ve never been on Latam but I have been on AA. Latam 787 business class looks better than AA. With AA you also run the risk of getting one of 777-200’s with the old business class seats which are horrible.

AA for sure.
Latam is a LCC with Lipstick.
I have flown with them:
SCL-JFK
SCL-MIA
GRU-CWB

While all in Y, I was not impressed with their J product. Their customer service is non existent.

trying to book a cdg to jfk on AA and use SWU
i can book the OW for $1200+/- or i can book a RT for $500 BE and forfeit second leg. is this a good idea? any issue from AA?

what is best way to book the RT option?
amex ($650 instead of $500) with 35% back as preferred airline so net approx 42
citi 50,000
cap one 50,000

chase showing same itin for $900 so not really an option

citi says i have until mon night to cancel but then i also have to agree to booking terms which then go on to say the ticket once confirmed is subject to the airline ticket rules. so how does the cancellation policy effect a BE which is only 24 hours - cant find info on citi booking portal in the forums

TIA

Cancellation will follow what Citi says if you booked it through them, which clearly says Monday night.

I would consider the 42K Amex as the best option IMO. I wouldn't be worried about forfeiting a second leg, especially if you don't do it often; you might even be able to get some airline credit by cancelling it.

United airlines to Amsterdam in coach or Brussels Airlines to Amsterdam in coach. Who's better?

Are you sure it isn't the same flight you're looking at?

So the one from JFK flies to Brussels. Are you asking if JFK-BRU-AMS on Brussels airlines is better than EWR-AMS on United?

Yes. One is from. Newark (united) the other is Jfk (brussels)

SN from JFK will have better food than UA from EWR -- but if EWR is a non-stop that will be enough for many.

If connection, the connection point could dramatically influence choice here (BRU is much easier to connect at than CDG, FRA, or LHR). Aircraft also matters here seems UA is flying 772 on that route and that's 17 inch wide seats w/ 30 inch pitch  vs 18 wide seats w 31 inch pitch on SN's A330-300 that they operate. I didn't look up connection aircraft but they generally are all not great in Europe.
