Took a private cab from the airport round trip around $55-60.
Stayed at Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. Hotel is very nice, has a mexican feel to it (as opposed to the typical modern hotel that could be anywhere), and pools are beautiful.
Booked a basic room on otel.com. Front desk offered us an upgrade at 250 a night, then 180, and I slipped him a $20 and got a free upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi
Ate at Red Heifer several times, both meat and dairy. Dairy is open till about 1230, Meat opens around 1.
Meat was great, although they don't always have everything available, so be sure to ask. Dairy is improving as they have a new manager who is great.
Ate at Dag Dag for the experience, food was very decent, owner sings for quite some time.
Went to Isla Mujeres by ferry which is right next to hotel. Must pay in CASH.
We rented a golf cart for about 600 pesos. Nice to just drive around, see the island. Went to the icebar, and stopped in at Dolphinarium where you can swim with dolphins. However, the Hotel next to Grand Fiesta (I believe it's the Hyatt) has swimming with dolphins too in groups of 2-4 for half hour. Much better bang for your buck.
Isla Mujeres has two kosher options, Chabad and a dairy restaurant. Chabad has meat, and falafel which didn't open till about 1230. Very Heimishe situation, they have pareve options too, shakshuka....
We went to Xplor Fuego. About $120 a person including round trip transportation which was about hour and half. A bit pricey, but part of the experience. ATVing, ziplines, and walking and swimming thru caves. Pretty cool. Comes with a huge buffet, nothing kosher other than some fruit
Hotel has beds (cabana) you can rent on the beach all day for about $85... Which includes 2 15 min, or 1 30 min massage. Officially only hand and foot, but was given a regular 30 massage in a private area on the beach. Was amazing!!
Pool has bar in it, with some kosher alcohol, (regular rum etc..) with freshly squeezed fruit. Was great.
Some hotels offer all inclusive food and drink including alcoholic beverages.
Was thinking about going to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, but it's an hour to Playa del Carmen and another hour ferry to get to Cozumel. Was told I would need to go by private cab... although there may be public transportation too.
There is a shuttle up and down the Hotel zone for 10 pesos (about 55 cents), part of the local experience.
