New flights to Eilat
« on: August 14, 2018, 11:40:36 AM »
Based on this video put out by Israel tourism, it says that when Rimon airport is opened it will have flights with UA/KE and AC. Has anyone else heard about it? Will it be another stop after TLV or will it be a new route?

WOW, how much spinning for a remote airport. Until railway connection is done, it's quite useless (though for Eilat it will be the only option) How does one get to Petra from there? Is it more accessible than from AQJ, or even AMM?

RyanAir and WizzAir will definitely use it, BA might have seasonal service. As for KE, AC, and UA, let me know when that happens.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

So just spin? technically it might be the best (read safest) airport for getting to Sinai and the resorts there.

Going through that border is a PITA.

you have to go thru Aqaba to get to Petra from Eilat
But really other than turkish and RJ there isn;'t much going on in AQJ
If this airport becomes as big as they are dreaming it will be a gateway for Petra
(AMM is 3 hrs from Petra and this would be 2 1/2 ...not counting a border crossing which could get interesting sometimes)

So basically a European that wants to get to Petra, would fly RyanAir or WizzAir into Ramon Airport, travel to Eilat, endure a border crossing (presumably require some transportation mode changes) to get to Petra, rather than paying TK or RJ fares to fly into AQJ. And the Jordanians will sit idle while this is happening.  ::)

But those two aren't on their soil. Unlike Petra. And that might prompt them to actually upgrade Aqaba, and offer deals to RyanAir, WizzAir and other European ULCCs.
