usaa (can still sign up for free?)
« on: August 20, 2018, 12:56:07 PM »
i received a usaa number a few years back for free
and now when i try accesing my account it says restricted
so first of all can it be that they closed my account?
and also if my brother wants to get an account is it still that easy to sign up as it was a few years ago?

any info on this would help!

My impression was that now you actually need to be a related to a service member

so do you think they are affecting past accounts.
as in i wouldn't be able to use it unless i prove i have a family member that served?

Your account was restricted because you didn't have any activity. Call and tell them that you'd like to start using it and they should be ablw to remove the restriction on your account.

Thanks
And does it help a sibling if I have an account?
Can they now get one (even though they don’t have a family member that was a serviceman?

If you have a checking account with them you can see if they can make him an authorized user.

I signed up for a USAA checking account when it was available to everyone. I have opened multiple joint checking accounts with family members. They each got their own USAA number, and I assume that they can now open their own and spread it further.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

If he wants to open a account just for the car rental codes you don't need to open a checking account just a regular account with them and most rental locations don't ask for proof that you are usaa member

The locations that ask for proof will only take a debit card or insurance, for the locations that don't ask for proof you don't need a USAA number.

Its good to have a number for legal reasons (if there's a accident etc)
