Starwoods low credit limit
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:48:31 PM »
I just opened a starwoods card and when I checked now I see the credit limit is $2000. Thats a joke. I usually get approved for 12k - 14k per card. I called they don't want to up the limit until 60 days. If I make a purchase and pay right away will they increase it for me? How can I get it higher? I need to spend $4,500?

Thank you

usually when you request them to increase the credit limits they will want to get a new Hard Inquiry and that not worth of course.

versus when they do it, they'll just send you a letter: congratulation bla bla bla .....

that was my experience with Chase, although might be different with AMEX.

generally you should just call them and ask them to raise it back up...since '08 they have been really pushing back on it...but they have loosened up a little these days

Ok thank you. They pushed it up to 4k but not much.
I guess I will keep making smaller purchases and paying them off.

pay in advance more than you owe like this you'll be able to make larger purchases

but that wont clear up the larger credit issue...
Are you trying to show a larger credit for your credit score or for larger purchases?

No. simply if you're trying to make a larger purchase, to reach a spending limit this should do it

Yes I want to reach my $4,500 without hitting half my credit limit because that won't be good for my credit.
Thank you. I will pay more then I owe and this will give me credit.

Thanks

Prepaying can cause an F/R...then again so can using more than half your limit.
Safest thing may be to make a charge and then call AMEX right away to pay off the pending charge amount on your card.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

You can't pay pending charges online.
