Gosh, is this so complicated? He was a true American hero. Period. Full stop.

Aside from the fact that OP didn't mention politics, your comments are absurd. Since when is toeing party line anything to be proud of? Especially in recent times when toeing party line meant carrying water for a man of such vile character.

He can certainly be criticised for his politics, and he undoubtedly made mistakes. But do you know who was harshest on him for his mistakes? John McCain.

His writing about selecting Palin and defending Confederate statues (among others) shows true self reflection the likes of which are almost never seen in politics. Just look at Cruz and Rubio et al, and how they've lost any sense of dignity, courage or integrity to toe party line.

The loss of McCain is not just the loss of an American hero for his military sacrifices, but the loss of one of the few politicians who was able to show integrity and class and wasn't a complete sellout.

No, not having Trump there will not bring the country closer together. But having him there won't either. For a man who has said some of the most heartless, disgusting things, perhaps his worst was mocking McCain's capture. On what planet would you want someone who was such a disgustingly cruel turd to you attend your own funeral?

Using Trump in the same sentence as "bring the country closer" would be comical enough. It is downright absurd when you consider your comment was about a man who asked that the 2 people who crushed him in his runs for president and are polar opposites politically to eulogize him.
FTFY. sorry but it hurt my eyes... ;)
May you slide down the banister of happiness & get many splinters of success up your career.

Interesting you would choose those words of mine to describe as art, because Microsoft's Word Art is also a disgustingly cruel turd.

I agree with a number of your points here but this one just shows your political bias. one can argue that these 2 things show the exact opposite. that he was willing to sell out on beliefs and colleagues if his to receive populist acceptance.

Exactly. And he writes about those mistakes taking responsibility and with a self reflection rarely, if ever, seen in politics

You want to criticize McCain's motives. Go serve as a POW for 5+ years and get back to me. Or go hide in a corner like our coward president.

So you can't criticize a senator because he was a POW?
If Trump would be all out mourning right now, you would call him a fraud, at least he's honest about it.

You want to criticize his decisions go right ahead. When it comes to his motives unless you walked in his shoes best you just keep your mouth shut like our coward president.

Oh come on. Running for election vs writing a memoir or giving random interviews makes it quite obvious.

Sorry, but you are taking this personally. No one here is disrespecting him or not calling him a hero. John McCain did more for this country than most other politicians.

Something that bothered me the last year or two, which may have not been his motive, but did seem that way, was him trying to build a legacy. This tweet below just shows the world that America is divided and does not respect the office of the president who we elected.

To our allies: bipartisan majorities of Americans remain pro-free trade, pro-globalization & supportive of alliances based on 70 years of shared values. Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn’t.
— John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) June 10, 2018

Why do you feel he needs to build a legacy? He doesn't already have one? People like BO and Trump need that.

Can I ask what the point of that tweet was?
