I never tried... But once the reservation is made - if you have a avis confirmation # then you are able to call the 800 # and add on ur wizard # or ur awd # ...

I have made reservations on avis.com that it was cheaper when I didnt use my wizard #, then called and added it... and kept the lower price i got

Data point: I made a reservation on Priceline.  Called Avis to add the Wizard number. Agent told me that the price would be higher with the Wizard number,so he suggested just adding it at the counter for points. (I'm not sure he understood that I've already paid for it via Priceline.)
