Travel Insurance Due to Simchas Torah War
« on: October 11, 2023, 08:15:45 AM »
Need some clarity between all available Travel insurance policies.

Sapphire Reserve said the current situation is not a covered hazard under their trip delay policy.

Amex Platinum specifically states that terrorism is covered. However they said that the $500 trip delay limit is per trip even if there are multiple family members on same reservation.

Allianz said that it is not covered because War is not covered. However when reading their policy it seems terrorist acts are covered.
If Flight was delayed/cancelled do I need to extend my Allianz policy to have medical coverage for the extended stay or coverage for the new return flight or it is automatically extended?

keep in mind that I believe Israel did declare a war so I'm not sure terrorism will work

The airline aren't flying because the terrorists are sending missiles to Israel not because Israel is bombing in Gaza

I’m kinda in the same boat, I have a trip coming up.
I booked El Al with Chase UR, I also bought Allianz but I decided from their T and C that it’s prob not covered.
Any suggestions on best way to cancel?
Also, I really would wait till last minute to cancel in case anything changes, any reason not to wait to cancel?

Elal isn't letting you cancel for a full refund?

Didn’t try yet, is that the best/easiest way?
Or should I try Chase as I booked with miles?

If they're allowing it? I'm sure it's the easiest way. Unless there are other non-Elal expenses that have to be covered (tours, hotels, etc). Personally, I'm still hoping that by the time it's time for my flight next month, this will long be over so I'm not canceling until the last minute.

What about the money I paid for travel insurance, any chance I can get that back? I used Chase to purchase insurance from Allianz

I never used chase or Alliamz but my guess is that that money is gone.

How long ago did you buy the insurance? Some companies give you a little time to cancel your policy and get a refund.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

If you booked with Chase, then they are your travel agent. They are authorized to submit a refund in the event that you are within the waiver parameters.

I know already an approval from Allianz due to current situation, received max reimbursement under the change fee coverage and trip delay coverage, however the policy didn't have trip interruption coverage

Does anyone know how they reimburse if you booked with miles?

Isn't the airline refunding you the miles?

Amex Insurance claimed that the policy excludes coverage since "A declared or undeclared war " is not covered, however as a one time accommodation for a valued customer we approved you a payment of $5,981.98

Makes me rethink my card strategy.

I also had a nice payout for a car rental claim.

@Dan Do you think which card you will use based on the coverage? Since Chase or C1 won't be as easy when it comes to any claims
