Topic Wiki

To save you time, here's a sum up of this thread. If you're getting married close to NYC (yes, Brooklyn is in NYC) - just go to the Andaz 5th. :)

REMEMBER: You must take your kesubah with you, or give it to someone to hold for you. The kallah has to know where it is.

So... now that I got my Tallis, etc. it's time to hit up this thread, as promised!

Getting married on a Sunday in January in Lakewood, iy"h (!) and have been weighing the pros and cons of where to stay the night/how to get there. Can I hear your thoughts? Should I find somewhere near Lakewood so I don't need to travel far (like NYC), or are all the really nice places going to be as far as Jersey City/NYC so I should just look there? I'd like a jacuzzi in the room.

2nd Q on this topic is the idea of taking a limo or driving yourself. I've heard that if you take a limo, you don't have a way to get home in the morning, so I could either drive my car to the hotel on day of the wedding, which I'm SURE I'll plenty of time to do that day, or otherwise you need to take a cab home. Or I can just drive my car to the wedding and then drive to the hotel after the wedding.

Thoughts?

Google 'The Bungalows' its in Deal 2 friends of mine went. Its supposed to be very nice and different they have about 24 rooms. I'm not sure though what the situation is since Sandy. I highly doubt you're going to use the Jacuzzi. Take a Limo and have a friend drive your car the day before to the hotel.

Probably true, but you should obviously still arrange for it just in case. You can argue though that one king + couch/rollaway is a better idea for that reason though.
I heard from multiple people who teach Chassanim that using the rollaway bed is not a good idea as your lowering yourself. I'm not saying I understand that as I don't but this is what I've heard.

Not a bad idea with the driving, but I would need 2 friends to drive it there (so one could drive the other to the wedding afterwards). Bungalows looks cool from the site, but I left this part out, I want to go with points if I can. I have:
2 free nights from the Hyatt cc.
50K UR
50K SPG (just have to finish hitting the thresholds)

That was a definite no no. They were only discussing the option of the guy sleeping on it and even on that they said no.

Gonna need a poll for that one, how many needed the couch/extra bed on their first night :P

I doubt anyone's gonna answer that one (not truthfully, anyway), but two data points:

1) I remember my chassan teacher telling me that in his experience, a whopping 98% of chassanim don't end up needing it. :o
2) Based on reports and anecdotes I've been hearing, more and more young couples actually avoid "needing it" on purpose (v'hamayvin yavin). :o :o :o

(Mods, feel free to delete this if you think it's any more inappropriate than Dan's post. :P)

Next time you guys come to a DO, I'll be happy to explain it to you. I'm not a psychologist (not yet, anyway...), but I've seen and heard enough in my time that I have the theory behind that statement pretty much worked out.

That number sounds a bit large but it's def a big majority...

It sure does. But I asked him if it was an exaggeration, and he assured me it was quite accurate. His exact words were "maybe 2 out of every 100 chassanim".
