Topic Wiki

To save you time, here's a sum up of this thread. If you're getting married close to NYC (yes, Brooklyn is in NYC) - just go to the Andaz 5th. :)

REMEMBER: You must take your kesubah with you, or give it to someone to hold for you. The kallah has to know where it is.

FWIW though, I happen to be against going to a hotel on your wedding night in most cases. Going straight to your new apartment when possible makes a lot more sense.

Lots of specific reasons. I bet a lot of which I can't even think of.

For starters, a hotel is nice when you want to get away. When moving into a brand new apartment with your new spouse, you should not need to get away; you are already going somewhere new and exciting.

As exciting as it may have been made to seem (for whatever reason), a hotel stay is inherently a pain in the neck. Unless you are staying for several days, you have to worry about check out times and parking and driving a car out before the wedding. It becomes a nuisance when all you want to do is relax after the big day.

When you go to your new home, you probably have it set up before hand. You've got clothes there, a fridge full of food, and all your tchachkes that you need like your own bathroom amenities. When you go to a hotel, you'll be living out of a suitcase and chances are there are going to be things that you didn't think of bringing.

Additionally, there can be annoyances with regards to halacha because all hotels have white sheets which is something you want to avoid especially the first night. And the last thing you want to be busy with is fitting your own sheets onto a king size hotel bed.. Which brings me to the next issue:

Bridal suites, and the big rooms in general have one king or queen bed which...is an issue for a chassan and kallah.

Another issue is that though hotels can be exciting to go to, basically they are always going to have a big yuck factor if you give it any thought. All hotels have blankets that don't get washed and I've seen warnings not to sit on the couches as guests feel free to sit there without clothes on and they don't get washed.

So yeah. Hotels on wedding night: bad idea.

Go home to your brand new beds and brand new sheets, and sleep in knowing that you don't have to check out at 12:00PM

Now you even convinced me not to go to a hotel all together...

I definitely hear the points. The part that I never got was when a  groom & bride walk in & they say they want 2 beds or worse they get bridal suite & request a cot what on earth do the hotel staff think?! It is the most bazaar & strange request I think they ever heard of- & Charlie sheen stays in hotels!! The frum mentality is never to give a 2nd thought what the Gentiles around u r thinking but that is just crazy. Case in point ; Couz worked in ritz in & he told me once staff called him & asked: we have a bride & groom & I thought they asked for a cot but I must have heard wrong caus why would they want that.. " said was awkwardest of moments ..

Another point. Despite how the wedding night is romanticized, for most in our community the reality is that the first night is mostly awkward. No matter how well you (think) you know each other, you don't really know someone until you're married.
Save the points/money for a month or 2, you'll appreciate all the fancy hotel has to offer way more.

That is precisely why virtually all professional recommend a hotel instead of the comfort of home where things may get delayed..
