Topic Wiki

To save you time, here's a sum up of this thread. If you're getting married close to NYC (yes, Brooklyn is in NYC) - just go to the Andaz 5th. :)

REMEMBER: You must take your kesubah with you, or give it to someone to hold for you. The kallah has to know where it is.

Lots of specific reasons. I bet a lot of which I can't even think of.

For starters, a hotel is nice when you want to get away. When moving into a brand new apartment with your new spouse, you should not need to get away; you are already going somewhere new and exciting.

As exciting as it may have been made to seem (for whatever reason), a hotel stay is inherently a pain in the neck. Unless you are staying for several days, you have to worry about check out times and parking and driving a car out before the wedding. It becomes a nuisance when all you want to do is relax after the big day.

When you go to your new home, you probably have it set up before hand. You've got clothes there, a fridge full of food, and all your tchachkes that you need like your own bathroom amenities. When you go to a hotel, you'll be living out of a suitcase and chances are there are going to be things that you didn't think of bringing.

Additionally, there can be annoyances with regards to halacha because all hotels have white sheets which is something you want to avoid especially the first night. And the last thing you want to be busy with is fitting your own sheets onto a king size hotel bed.. Which brings me to the next issue:

Bridal suites, and the big rooms in general have one king or queen bed which...is an issue for a chassan and kallah.

Another issue is that though hotels can be exciting to go to, basically they are always going to have a big yuck factor if you give it any thought. All hotels have blankets that don't get washed and I've seen warnings not to sit on the couches as guests feel free to sit there without clothes on and they don't get washed.

So yeah. Hotels on wedding night: bad idea.

Go home to your brand new beds and brand new sheets, and sleep in knowing that you don't have to check out at 12:00PM
I hear your points but I think the main reason why is since it's a special and different type of night it's more comfortable to take care of it out of regular circumstances. Sorry if I didn't/couldn't explain myself well enough.

Valid point if where you are getting married is the place you will be living, however, if you are just in a temporary chosson kallah apartment until you move....then hotel would make the most sense.
