So what do you suppose a guy should do if he doesn't have a meal for shabbos? Not have a shabbos meal because we're not a nation of beggers?

My shul, and many shuls with which I'm familiar in the US, provide "Shabbat hospitality," meaning they will match visitors to meals and even a place to stay near the shul, if people are visiting from out of town.   I see this thread as the same idea.

My family and I could go out to a Shabbat dinner at one of the hotels in Jerusalem, but to my mind, I would rather we have the experience of seeing how others enjoy their Shabbos, and meeting some kind and interesting people. Anyone who opens up their home and their Shabbat table is epitomizing Avraham avinu and the midda of hachansat orchim.  That's the kind of person in whose home and at whose table I would like to be welcomed.

Masking to your second part. In regards to the first part I think my problem is I see it as asking the same people every week for a meal. Imagine getting a call every thursday from the same bochur asking for a meal. I guess this thread is a bit of a different situation.

So what do you suppose a guy should do if he doesn't have a meal for shabbos? Not have a shabbos meal because we're not a nation of beggers?

You telling me they wont have a meal in yeshiva?

This I agree with, and my comments were not addressed to you as a shorter time visitor. My point being that the yeshiva bochurs every week are looking for a shabbos meal, it would be much simpler for them to post "hey we are here in Israel through Pesach and would love to meet some interesting people etc."

And my last point which is I think what got me so upset to start here is the way the requests were made.

Contrast:

During Thanksgiving week and the associated Shabbos, DW and I will be visiting our DD, who is in spending shana ba'aretz in midrasha.  I know that we don't fit the typical DDFer demographic, but if someone is interested in hosting us for a Shabbos meal, we would be appreciative.    Staying in the TRYP.

with

Shabbos, Yom Tov, Next 10 Meals, my inbox is empty...
Need a meal tomorrow night...
Friday night?

Your right. The way I was asking was impersonal and abrupt.

But if you notice, I've been working it to lack the "begging" that you don't like, and was making it known that I would gladly accept a meal if it where offered.

We would be delighted to have you! We live in Sanhedria Murcevet which is a bit of a walk from the TRYP (2 miles acc to google maps), but you could take a taxi before shabbos and then only walk one way. Pls PM me if you'd like to join us!
