I think you are out of luck.  I don't remember any shell south of richmond, VA that takes these. It makes sense as you are in Kroger territory.

Pull up the the pump farthest from the attendant and pump your own gas. I've done this at many stations.

IME Shell pumps don't work after they are closed, other stations do work.

Has not been my experience at all, although after the 1st 2 times trying and getting screamed at, I haven't tried (don't want to make a 'חילול ה).

Not Shell. In 2 random gas stations in NJ. It was too long ago for me to remember for sure, but I think one was Speedway and one was Sunoco or BP.

I almost always pump my own gas in NJ.  When not I just told the attendant I have to enter discount code and then let them proceed.  I worry about someone taking the alt-id.
