Not fuel rewards, but I can sell a $1 off at BP/Amoco up to 35 gallons for $10. BP not Shell.

1.50*20=30 +10 for 1.55 off make it like paying 40 for 305 off

I suddenly couldn't make sense of the above.  were you saying 30+10=40?
1.50*20 = $30 that's the money a buyer saves(@20 gallons, it should really have been 1.55)  $10 is what buyer pays.  you are adding savings and cost of the savings. what's your definition of the sum?  Seemed like you are adding apples and oranges and comparing the sum with oranges.

1. $40 for 3.05 off is like paying $40 for getting $61 (@ 20 gallons) in return.
2. $20 for 1.55 off is like paying $20 for getting $31 (@ 20 gallons) in return.
3. $10 for 1.55 off is like paying $10 for getting $31 (@ 20 gallons) in return.

I don't see 1 and 3 are the same. I think 1. and 2 are the same (similar and 2 is actually better return)

The end result is that 1 and 3 are the same.
The bottom line savings for the consumer on 20 gallons is $21 vs 2 the bottom line savings for the consumer is $11

this is not an investment with returns, ppl are simply trying to save money and what matters is the bottom line savings. For $11 savings some feel it isn’t worthwhile versus $20 savings is more significant.

you are right.  It will only make sense for uber drivers who do like 100 fills.

I think it makes sense for everyone, regardless how many times you fill up. You gain no value when you pay $11 or $20 more that you could have saved, the question is how much of a effort do you have to do for this to make it worthwhile for you. How far out of your way do you have to drive to a shell station and how crazy do you have to go to monitor your gas and not to worry that you will run out of gas by running on fumes..

interesting point.  You are saying the hassle is a constant for each fill to a buyer, a uber driver that potentially can save $110 a month doesn't have more incentive to buy the discount than a guy doing 1 fill a month because uber driver's total cost (in terms of hassle) also is 10 fold?

I still think one will have better luck finding a $3.05 off for $40 seller than finding a $1.55 off for $10 seller.  Maybe someone can convince me wrong.

I want to add that shell is a bit expensive than costco and so that takes away few dollars from $10 savings. With no commute, I fill once in 2-3 weeks and probably not worthwhile for me. But again this is my perspective and some might argue that Savings IS Savings no matter what.

I've had this discussion with many people.

Going to costco is a big hassle.  There are not many locations and always long lines lasting 15-30 mins.  There are shell stations everywhere and basically never a line.  The convenience and time saver of going to shell is worth it.

Savings is savings yes.  If you were to purchase a dozen rolls of paper towels from somewhere, and you saw one pack was $20 and the other pack was $10, which pack would you buy?

Agreed. But for someone who goes to Costco anyways may not mind. My wife goes inside and I goto gas line while she is shopping.
As for paper towels example, we are not talking about $10 vs $20. We are talking about $10 vs $12. Also, I wont buy lifetime of paper towels even if it was cheap. This is just my perspective.
