I have the Ecobee only for the sensor option, the smart home stuff is too complicated without a Shabbos mode.
Thus my configuration until now on my Ecobee 3 has been:
-Disable smart/home away
-Disable follow me
-Set brightness for active and standby to 10
-Disable standby screen
-Hold action until changed

Have you/anyone sorted out the Nest for shabbos/yt?
If you have my email PLEASE don't PM me :)

Do all these require a C wire? Because the Nest doesn't
Yes, unlike the Nest that has a battery and can use really low voltage to charge it , the Ecobee needs a C wire.

negative, the ecobee has a piece which swaps a wire on the panel on the furnace into a C, so even if you don't have a C you can make it compatible

I disagree, I actually spoke with tech support. In some cases that adapter helps, but in others like mine (old steam system) you need to run a C wire. Thankfully I had an extra wire already there and was able to connect it to a pre-existing 24 volt transformer on my boiler so it was an easy fix. If you don’t have that, you can buy one on Amazon. It’s a plug in transformers that you can connect as the C wire.

Just switched from a Honeywell to the ecobee3 Lite (free from BGE). Technician said you can turn off the proximity sensor manually from the app. No need for tape. (Says he gets that question a lot from the Jewish folks in my neighborhood lol)

You can turn off the proximity sensor, but you'll still have a problem with the standby display.
The only options are tape or to keep disable the standby display and keep the active and inactive displays on the same brightness.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Dan, (or anyone else) can you clarify what you mean by "or to keep disable the standby display"? I got the rest.

Thanks!
