Flying on a Friday in the Winter Months

Very torn what to do. Found a flight from MSY to LGA on December 28th, which is a friday. The flight is supposed to land at 1pm (Southwest) in LGA..Shabbos is about 4pm... Think this is cutting it too close in case weather delays?  I can take a thursday evening flight but its about $250 more or 14k more points...thoughts?

If you have the points available, I wouldn't even consider it a question. If that's not the case, it is likely that you will know the weather situation prior to departure, and could choose not to fly.

My gut saying dont do it either, yetz harah saying save $250...I think ill pay up for the thursday night flight in the spirit of shabbat!

When I book flights on a Friday, I calculate 4 hours of sitting on taxiway, and then travel time to destination. Just in case they wait the allotted time and then decide to go.

I try really hard to avoid flying Friday/Erev Y"T altogether, though I understand it's unavoidable/inconvenient at times.

While I agree with you, I think there's a difference between winter weather and summer thunderstorms. Not sure how likely one is to be trapped in a plane due to winter weather issues.

With winter weather the Thursday flight could also be canceled.
