I took Dan's recommendation to buy a biz class ticket for my spouse's upcoming transatlantic flight. Wondering if I should still have him fly AC after reading the details of the following scary incident at SFO last year:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Canada_Flight_759

The seats are indeed great. However, if there are issues with pilot fatigue due to shorter rest periods and that ILS during landing is not mandated by AC, then what are the SAFER airlines to choose?

LOL. I’ve had an aborted landing with Swiss (plane still on runway) and it wasn’t the pilot’s fault. Flying Air Canada next week Vancouver-Sydney!

Air Canada is a very safe airline and your spouse will be just fine.

Many airlines do not mandate using the ILS during landing, it is up to the pilot, and just like any other career, there are good pilots and not so good ones, but overall AC is a safe airline.

You should not fly whilst any AC flight is near a runway! They nearly hit the other plane.

You can find similar incidents with EVERY airline, let us look at KLM , supposedly one of the safest in recent history, if you went by the awful crash at Tenerife in 1977,you'll never would fly KLM,   KLM /PAN AM b747 's collided on the runway at Tenerife North Airport, on the Spanish island of Tenerife, Canary Islands killing 583 people, making it the deadliest accident in aviation history, due to a mistake by the KLM Captain who at the time was the chief pilot of the airline.
