tried searching, is it generally recommended to freeze CR's?
With all these hacks etc I'm thinking about it.

Like I said I did a search for freeze credit report and I couldn't find a thread dedicated to it, so if anyone knows what's best or knows of a thread please reply.

Thanks

If your credit report is clean of negatives, there is really no need for you to freeze

You should've stated you were having identity issues.

"Using the word "hacks" looks like you're in for trouble

Disagree.  For instance, many creditors want EX in California.  Some like AMEX, Citi and Chase cannot be swayed to pull another bureau.  Others, like US Bank, BofA, FNBO can be guided to others.  So freezing  EX lets you spread the love so to speak

The OP is looking for hacks and I wouldn't call it a hack. More like a strategy

How long will Amex take to update the CR after a very large payment (>$5k) to a closed account?
I'm paying off the balance completely.
Do I need to wait until the statement cycles or do they update earlier?

This has been covered in this thread several times, including several pages back.

Don't get an installment loan unless you actually need one.

Good to see you back here, Mendelssohn.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Have any idea which page it was discussed?  Or can you post a link?

Thanks,  but if part of the score is based on the type loans you have why shouldn't I take a installment loan of let's say 1k and  pay most of it ( it shouldn't cost me that much) ,  I know the inquiry will hurt my score  but isn't the benefit having another type of loan more worth?
