“Pay your account balance off, besides for a buck or 2, the day before your statement closes. This will greatly increase your credit score.”

I have seen conflicting info on this. Do you need to do this for every card, just one, or just one from each bank? Also, is $2 enough or does it need to hit 1 PERCENT? Thanks.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

My credit score went down quite a bit recently. I haven't done anything other than open 2 new cards, and in the past it hasn't gone down this much from opening cards. Is this still in the normal range or something to worry about/look into? TIA

Is it a real FICO score?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

It should be FICO. You do get new inquires for new accounts so your score will drop from that and also drop from AAoA.

Dropping 36 points from 2 or 3 new inquiries is normal?
Sorry, what is AAoA?

In my experience of credit scores, it has gone down by like 30 points several times, either when I opened a new card, a credit increase, or a drastic spending  increase... Within a few weeks it always went back up to the original score or higher. I would definitely say it makes sense given the fact you're saying you just opened 3 credit cards...

If it is from opening new cards it will take many months to recoup.

Not necessarily. Also has a larger credit now, which can make his credit usage go down.

Paying off a balance will have a quick rebound. Inquires and AAoA is a different story.

FICO claims inquire lower your score 5 points or less.

There are so many variables that make up credit scores it is hard to tell what made it go up or down.

Chase (powered by Experian) will generally tell you the overall reason(s) why your credit score went down.
