Understood.  Not sure if that applies to my case,  I'll have to check.  But it's a good fundamental principle to know anyway

total utilization amount is also important as well, but wont help much if you max out single cards or have high individual util..

it's all about having a "balance"  ;D ;D ;D

How big was that big balance and what was the credit line on that specific card?
The "big" balance was $650 on a charge card, so no credit limit...

I always pay off my Amex charge card before it reports to make certain it doesn't count in my utilization.

How about your business cards?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

If I request chase to lower my CL (to make it easier to get auto- approval on the next application), approximately how long will it take to show in my credit report?

When your next statement cuts.

By making it report less on your credit report isn't going to help your approval chances.

if you're talking about lowering a Chase line for auto approval on another Chase line, the report doesn't matter.

Thanks!
This probably isn't the right place, but how long would you wait between lowering the limit and applying for a new card?

Can you guys please elaborate. I believed until now that having to much credit can hurt me with new approvals.

Chase knows how much credit they've extended you without looking at your credit report.

But does their auto-approval system see that the total 150k credit on my report includes 50k of credit from Chase, that I just cancelled out last week?

I think not, and therefore the system won't approve me because I have too much outstanding credit (from all banks combined).

I think you're trying to solve a non-existent problem.

Generally banks are concerned with internal max exposure, not external.

Telling you you were denied for too much overall credit is like telling you the denial was for too many INQ's.  Its nust a bogus reponse thats totally arbitrary.

Hmm learnt something new, thanks!

And regarding internal exposure, If I cancel a card today, will it be out of their internal system tomorrow?

It should be.  That being said, I'd give it a couple days to be on the safe side if not calling is your goal though.

Exactly.  It's going to initially hurt your score from the INQ and new account.  It's going to lower your AAoA. It's going to raise your DTI.  It's going to cost you money.
Beautiful.  Direct, to the point.  Great having you aboard.
