my boss, basically plagarized this:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertberger/2016/08/28/fico-9-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-latest-credit-score/#67df9bdc4ddc

the article says banks are slowly adopting FICO 9. I know for mortgages most are still on older versions.

"Despite all the excitement surrounding FICO 9, it’s not the most widely used FICO formula. That honor still belongs to the earlier version, FICO 8, according to Fair Isaac."
"LESS IS MORE" It is the cumulative effect that kills deals!!! How many times do I have to say this?  >:(

Typically how many points should one's Fico score drop when applying for a single credit card and the same for canceling one?

There's no way to predict this. However, cancelling a card will only effect your score if that card had a big credit limit and now your overall utilization ratio is raised because your overall limit is now lower. Opening up a card usually doesn't hurt more than a few points.

Are you getting a mortgage soon? If not, no need to go crazy on every single point.

I closed an amex charge card and applied for a chase card and my score dropped about 45 points

About $3500
Was that a large percentage of your total credit?

Did you have any largish statements post?

It's strange that it dropped that much...

It's very hard to troubleshoot without seeing the report, but these are like snowflakes and the scores don't always respond the same. Do you still have a card with Amex? What are your other balances vs. credit limits?

What score do you have now?

FICO 8 ignores charge cards for utilization purposes. I'm pretty sure the score Amex gives you is FICO 8.

How is it that my experian score is basically the same as my other CB scores, despite the fact that it has 9 inquiries vs 3 or 4?

Where are you getting your scores?
The score is much more complex and identical reports across all 3 CB won't always have the same score.

None of those are FICO scores.
